Corporators

While the Archbishop is responsible for the overall operations of the Archdiocese, the Parish Corporation is the legal vehicle for managing the affairs of the parish and establishing specific legal accountability for those affairs. There is a separate corporation for every parish in the Archdiocese. The Parish Corporators are the Board of Directors of each parish corporation.  They are responsible for assuring that matters such as safety, condition of the physical plant, hiring of personnel, finances, security of parish assets, operations in accordance with Archdiocesan policies, and compliance with State and federal laws are being dealt with in a reasonable and prudent manner. Corporators need not do these things themselves, but must assure that they are being done.

Bylaws specify that “two laypersons appointed by the Archbishop” serve as members of the Board of Corporators. Parish Corporators are nominated by the pastor and serve for a period of five years.

Current Corporators:

  • Bill Cooney
  • Michael Vinluan

Pastor’s Council

The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) called for the creation of parish councils to encourage greater lay participation in the life of the Church.

A Catholic parish pastoral council is a consultative body of lay leaders who, under the guidance of the parish priest, advises on pastoral planning and coordinates parish activities to foster the parish’s mission.

The primary purpose of a parish pastoral council is to assist the pastor in developing and implementing a pastoral plan that promotes the well-being of the parish community and its mission.

The council typically consists of the pastor, representatives from selected ministries, elected/selected members from the parish representing a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

The council serves in an advisory capacity, providing input and recommendations to the pastor on various church related matters such as strategic planning, communication with the ministries and at time the greater parish community facilitating dialogue and receiving feedback. The council will also help the pastor discern the needs and opportunities of the parish community.
