Confirmation

Getting Confirmed at St. Ignatius of Loyola

At St. Ignatius, we believe the Sacrament of Confirmation is a meaningful and transformative moment in a young Catholic’s spiritual journey. This sacred step strengthens a child’s connection to the Church and marks the completion of their full initiation into the Christian faith. Our program is open to baptized Catholic youth starting in 7th grade who are prepared to welcome the Holy Spirit and fully embrace their identity as disciples of Christ.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament of maturity and commitment. Through prayer, learning, and active participation, young candidates are invited to affirm their baptismal promises and step into a deeper, more personal relationship with Christ and His Church.

Our preparation program is designed to help each candidate understand the meaning of the sacrament, explore their personal faith, and discern how the Holy Spirit is calling them to live out their Christian vocation. Guided by catechists, mentors, and parish leaders, candidates will participate in sessions focused on Scripture, Church teaching, prayer, and service.

Steps to Prepare Your Child for the Sacrament

To participate in the Confirmation preparation program at St. Ignatius, the following requirements must be met:

Faith Formation Requirement
  • Your child must have completed at least one full year of Faith Formation in a parish-based program or Catholic school during the previous year.
  • Your child must currently be enrolled in a Faith Formation program at either our parish or a Catholic school.
Baptismal Certificate Submission

If your child was not baptized at St. Ignatius, a copy of their Baptismal Certificate must be submitted before preparation begins.

Active Participation
  • Candidates must attend and complete all required Confirmation sessions, retreats, and service experiences.

  • Each candidate will also be asked to select a sponsor who is a confirmed Catholic in good standing and will support them on their faith journey.
